Part 4: Release Day Game Plan - What to Do the Moment Your Song Drops

#musicmarketing #musicpromotion #newmusicindustry #recordrelease #releaseasingle #releasemusic Jun 24, 2025

Release day isn’t the end of your journey, it’s the launchpad.

The work you do on the day your single drops can make or break its reach, especially in the first 24–72 hours.

This is where visibility, engagement, and momentum collide.

Here’s your step-by-step release day game plan to maximise impact.

Step 1: Confirm Everything Is Live

As soon as your release day begins:

  • Check all platforms (Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube, etc.) to make sure your song is live and working.
  • Check your pre-save turned into a live stream link.
  • Update your Link in Bio to a smart link (Linktree, Feature.fm, etc.) with all streaming options.

Step 2: Post Across All Channels Early

Start the day with a strong announcement:

  • Social media: new single is OUT NOW!
  • Include artwork + streaming link + a personal message.
  • Use video or audio snippets - they convert better than static images.

TIP: Tag collaborators, producers, or anyone involved in the track to expand reach.

Step 3: Spark Engagement

Algorithms favour early engagement.

Encourage interaction by:

  • Asking fans to comment their favourite lyric
  • Prompting them to share your song to their stories
  • Running a 24-hour giveaway (e.g., merch, a shoutout, or a private video)

The goal? Get people clicking, commenting, and sharing - fast.

Step 4: Email Your Mailing List

If you’ve built an email list (and you should), send out a message on release day.

Include:

  • Your personal story behind the song
  • The streaming link
  • A “thank you” for being part of your journey

Email may not be glamorous, but it consistently drives higher conversion than social posts.

Step 5: Submit to Playlists & Blogs

Don’t wait - start pitching immediately.

Focus on:

  • User-curated playlists on Spotify
  • SubmitHub, Groover, Musosoup
  • Local radio stations and music blogs
  • Niche playlists that match your genre or theme

Bonus Tip: Create your own playlist featuring your single plus 10–20 similar artists. Share it, and tag those artists.

Step 6: Be Present and Visible

Be active and available online all day:

  • Reply to every comment
  • Thank people for sharing
  • Repost stories
  • Go live to talk about the release, play the track, or answer fan questions

You’re not just promoting a song — you’re building connection.
